About IBMA
Cultivating People and Connecting the World Through Budo
The International Budo Human Development Association (IBMA) is an international organization dedicated to promoting Budo Education Research, Budo education, international exchange, and community engagement.
At IBMA, we regard budo as far more than a competitive sport or a collection of martial techniques. We believe it is an educational and cultural tradition that nurtures human character, promotes lifelong learning, and contributes to the well-being of society.
Through the universal values of budo, we strive to cultivate people, connect cultures, and help build a more peaceful and harmonious world.
Our Purpose
The purpose of IBMA is to advance the educational value of budo through Budo Education Research, while contributing to human development and society.
We study the philosophy, principles, and teaching methods of budo and apply the results of our research to education, international exchange, and community activities.
By doing so, we seek to preserve, develop, and pass on the cultural and educational heritage of budo to future generations.
Our Philosophy
IBMA is guided by the following principles:
- Fostering human character through budo
- Advancing Budo Education Research
- Supporting lifelong learning
- Promoting international friendship and mutual understanding
- Preserving and developing budo culture
- Contributing to local communities and society
Through these principles, we aspire to ensure that budo continues to enrich both individuals and society.
Who We Are
IBMA is not a governing body for martial arts organizations or styles.
Instead, it is an international network that respects the independence and individuality of every dojo and organization while providing opportunities to study, cooperate, and grow together through shared educational values.
We believe that the diversity of martial arts traditions is one of budo’s greatest strengths. By respecting those differences and encouraging collaboration, we aim to create new opportunities for the future development of budo.

Our activities include:

Building a Global Budo Network
IBMA seeks to build an international network that connects martial artists, dojos, educators, researchers, and all those who share a commitment to the values of budo.
By learning from one another, respecting our diversity, and working together across cultures, we aim to cultivate people, connect the world, and pass the spirit of budo on to future generations.
