A Budo Organization Dedicated to the Preservation, Study, and Development of Kyokushin Karate
IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI is a Budo organization established to respect the history
and spirit of Kyokushin Karate; preserve, study, and develop its techniques,
kata, training systems, and value as Budo; and pass them on to future generations.
It seeks to develop Kyokushin Karate not merely as a competitive sport or
fighting system, but as Budo that strengthens the body, cultivates the mind
and character, and develops people capable of contributing to society.
Establishment of IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI
IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI was established by Akira Masuda with the endorsement
and cooperation of Yukimitsu Nakagawa, who was engaged in teaching and
promoting Kyokushin Karate in Okayama.
Akira Masuda was the founder and principal organizer of IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI.
Yukimitsu Nakagawa supported its establishment and subsequent activities
through his endorsement of its principles and objectives and his cooperation
in Okayama.
IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI began its activities on the foundation of Akira Masuda’s
many years of experience in Kyokushin Karate training, instruction,
competition, and organizational management. Its purpose is to pass the spirit
and techniques of Kyokushin Karate on to future generations while continuing
to study and develop them as Budo.
Its current activities include the preservation and study of Kyokushin Karate
basics, kata, and technical systems; research into Budo techniques and training
methods; instructor development; Certified Rank and Certified Instructor
systems; tournaments and seminars; exchange among Affiliated Organizations
and Affiliated Dojos; and cooperation with Budo organizations and practitioners
in Japan and other countries.
Relationship Between IBMA and IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI
IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI is
an independent Budo organization that supports the principles of IBMA
and operates with official recognition from IBMA
,
the International Budo Human Development Association.
IBMA and IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI cooperate in areas of shared principles and
objectives, including human development through Budo, instructor development,
education, research, and domestic and international exchange.
However, IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI is not an internal division, branch, or subordinate
body of IBMA.
IBMA and IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI each maintain their own organizational structure,
membership system, operational authority, and responsibilities.
Affiliation with IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI does not, by itself, constitute individual
membership in IBMA or organizational membership status within IBMA.
The two organizations operate independently while respecting each other’s
principles and roles and cooperating in appropriate fields.
What IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI Seeks to Achieve
IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI respects the basic techniques, kata, and other specific
technical heritage systematized and left by Masutatsu Oyama and works to
preserve, study, and transmit them.
At the same time, we do not regard tradition as the unchanging preservation
of past forms. We believe that tradition must be studied in terms of its
meaning, historical development, and underlying principles, then developed
into forms that remain valuable in the present and can be passed on to the future.
We also study the older Karate and martial traditions from which Kyokushin
Karate developed. At the same time, we research new techniques and training
methods arising from kumite and competitive practice in pursuit of safer,
more rational, and higher-quality Budo training.
We do not measure the value of Budo solely by technical ability or competitive
results. We place importance on developing self-control, judgment, respect
for others, and the strength to face difficulties through training, and on
applying these qualities in family life, work, education, and the community.
Independence of Affiliated Organizations and Dojos
IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI does not seek to consolidate its Affiliated Organizations
and Affiliated Dojos into a single organization.
Each Affiliated Organization and Affiliated Dojo retains its independence
with respect to its name, history, representative, teaching policies,
training content, organizational structure, finances, and day-to-day operations.
While respecting this independence, IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI cooperates with its
Affiliated Organizations and Affiliated Dojos in areas of shared purpose,
including the preservation, study, and development of Kyokushin Karate,
instructor development, rank and qualification systems, and domestic and
international exchange.
IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI therefore seeks to develop as a Budo network in which
organizations cooperate while respecting one another’s history and distinctive
identity, rather than as a structure in which one organization unilaterally
controls all others.
Affiliation and Certification
IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI distinguishes between
Affiliation and Certification.
Affiliation is the basic stage for organizations and dojos that support the
principles and activities of IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI and wish to establish a
cooperative relationship with it.
Certification is a system under which IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI formally recognizes
an Affiliated Organization or Affiliated Dojo after reviewing its activity
record, instructional structure, safety management, ethical conduct, placement
of qualified personnel, and organizational operations.

While seeking to expand cooperation with a wide range of organizations and
dojos, IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI protects the value of its Certified Ranks,
Certified Instructor qualifications, name, and public credibility through
appropriate standards.

- Development and administration of the Certified Rank system
- Certification and development of Certified Instructors

- Tournaments and competitive activities
- Joint training and exchange activities
- Exchange among Affiliated Organizations and Affiliated Dojos
- Exchange with Budo organizations and practitioners in Japan and other countries
- Preservation of Budo documents, videos, and research results
- Documentation and publication of research through the Digital Karate Budo Textbook
- Development of Budo practitioners and instructors who will serve future generations
IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI Masuda Dojo
IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI Masuda Dojo was
founded by Akira Masuda.
It is currently one of the Affiliated Dojos that constitute IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI.
At the same time, it serves as the Headquarters Dojo and performs headquarters
functions, including administrative operations, technical research, instructor
development, administration of examination systems, and coordination with
Affiliated Organizations and Affiliated Dojos.
Its role as the Headquarters Dojo does not mean that it holds a permanently
superior position over other Affiliated Organizations or Affiliated Dojos.
IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI respects the history and independence of every Affiliated
Organization and Affiliated Dojo, including Masuda Dojo.
